Video Games

One of my few forms of entertainment and relaxation is playing video games. I get a sense of accomplishment after battling hard to win a game. My favorite games are Madden Football on PS2, Grand Turismo 4 on PS2, EA NHL on PS2, and the Sims on PC.

The Coolest Games of All Time

Machine Hunter
Machine Hunter for Playstation 1 is an awesome simultaneous 2 player game. Braad and I fell in love with this game. We conquered it on a lower level, but we could never conquer it on the hardest level. Haven't played it in years, but it was definately a favorite of all time. You had two guys (2 player) using the same screen who tried to find the exit to a level going through mazes of bad guys and monsters who like to shoot at you. You start out as a guy on foot with two pistols that don't do much damage at all. The machines that attack you can be disabled and taken over, which is the object. The machine you take over is like a robot that your guy is inside, which. The machines give you different abilities as far as speed, armour and weapons. If your machine is destroyed, you can run around for a while on foot if you can survive and get in another machine. Very cool game.

Spaceward Ho! The best cowboy themed universe domination game ever.

All Humans Must Die

I finally fired up "All Humans Must Die", and ... buy it; just go buy it! It is a VERY well done 1st person shooter hybrid. It has a bit of a classic alien storyline. You are an alien sent to Earth to destroy all humans. It is VERY intuitive. It starts you out slow by reading the minds of cows and levitating them; at first I thought this was dull, but it turns out to be very handy in close combat as I can kill attackers that way and even lift police and other cars and hurl them into a lake! It steps you through using each of your tools very slowly, and there is plenty time to practice as it is very wide open like GTA. There is a main mission that must be completed to unlock the next invasion site, but once you do you can hang out forever and play and even go back to the completed invasion site just to have fun. The missions are very well guided as to the next step, unlike the frustrating Family Guy guessing game we played.

There are civilians, farmers with shotguns, police, and military. You can Zap them, hypnotize them, Anal Probe them (just another weapon and faster way to kill them), morph into any human so no one can see you, levitate, distract humans, read thoughts, and you have a little jet pack so you can zip around. When you kill the humans, you suck out their brains and collect their DNA for points which you can later trade in for weapon and ship upgrades.

Did I mention the ship? At anytime, you can hop in your ship and fly around and just go blasting with your .... "No, Death Ray Laser". You also have an abducto beam, but I haven't been able to do anything other than swing humans around in the sky and drop them to their deaths. While you're flying, there are tanks firing at you which can take you out.

Like GTA, there are police alert and militay alert icons which activate when people site you and as you wreak havoc. Last night, I completed the second mission in which I had to kill some scientists, then morph into human form, sneak through town to the Mayor's mansion, distract the cop the Mayor was standing next to, then Morph into the Mayor. Then, as the Mayor, I had to answer questions from the towns poeple to tell them there was no invasion taking place. After that, I just went blasting. I was running around town sucking brains. Like GTA, it got to the point where I had no where to hide, cops everywhere, and tanks firing at my little alien a$$. I was thinking I was Rambo taking on the entire military by myself. Finally, I morphed into a soldier that was chasing me and walked around town, which got the police and military heat to cool down. Then, I just got kind of tired of sucking brains and shut it off. I could literally just fool around in one invasion site all day!

Buy this game!

NASCAR Racing

2nd Pocono Race 8-22-2003
I raced the second race at Pocono last night, and what a wild one. The last time there, I used an automatic (BLASTPHEMY!). I qualified 6th, jumped into the lead and dominated winning by 8 seconds or something. This time, I used a manual (have been since Sears Point), and I've always heard of NASCAR shifting at Pocono, so I shifted. I qualified 24th, but I started picking through the field when the race started. Going into 3rd gear in the corners gave me a monster bite down the straights, and that was my best passing area. I had just taken 3rd on lap 10/50 when a big plume of white smoke began billowing out of my hood. D'OH! Too much shifting and over revving, so I decided really quick to take an early pit stop and salvage some sort of finish instead of another DNF. I wasn't really sure if they could fix that type of damage in the pits, but I brought it in and came out in 43rd almost a lap down sure enough it was fixed! Then, I kept it in 4th gear and had to change the way I was driving. I just tried to stay ahead of the leaders and pray for a caution. This is where I have lost some respect for the game....

Every lap I was pulling further and further away from the leaders. I'm like "New tires?", "Staying in 4th gear is THAT much faster?" Dunno, but I kept going. I began catching the back of the pack, and by lap 25 (my usual pit stop time), I was back in the lead! WHAT??? Kinda stupid, but I'll take it. Amazingly, once I made up an entire friggin lap and passed the leaders, I couldn't pull away from them. Even more amazingly, they stayed out longer than I did on fuel! I pit on lap 10, so I was "SURE" I would be the last car to pit. However, they were still running at like lap 36/50. I was down to like 4 gallons, so I finally gave up and pit shaking my head. They pit the next lap, and I was back in the lead. I attempted to drive over next to the pit wall as I was taking the checker (like they did in F1), and I hit the pit wall! D'OHHHHH! Jeff Gordon close, and I only beat him by 0.768 seconds! What a weird race. Despite pitting twice, I led the most laps! Sick. I'm ready for Super Pro level.
