My
New Jetta Wolfsburg - Farewell Escort
I
had a long 12 year relationship with my Escort. It is of this
time the best car I've ever had. I drove it for 189,000 miles,
and it was still running great. However, the body was rusting
and parts are hard to find for it, so I finnnallly traded
it in on April 2, 2001. This is my new 2001 Jetta Wolfsburg.
So far, I love it. I just hope it has the dependabliity of
the Escort.

My brother bought a Jetta too on the same day. What a marathon
that was! We were in the dealership for over 6 hours. We are
Ying and Yang with black and white Jettas.
This
is my 1989 Ford Escort that I bought new in 1989 and have
racked up 165,000 miles. It's the best car I've ever had.
It's been to Mexico, California, Colorado, Michigan, a whole
bunch of races, and many other states with me. This photo
was taken in 1999. It may not look like much, but it has 3
way adjustable Koni shocks and performance springs, which
lowered and evened the car. When I say lowered, most people
think "lowrider and hydraulics", but that's not
the idea at all. The springs and shocks dramatically improved
the stability of the carand reduced the body roll. Also, the
ride height looks so much better. I've also added a Dynomax
performance muffler that makes it sound great and adds a little
horsepower. This is the car I plan to set up for SCCA ITB
racing. Most people think I'm nuts trying to hot rod an Escort.
However, in England the Ford Escort is like a Camaro. So,
in England they have a lot of performance parts for it. I
got the parts for my Escort from a place called British American
Transfer. You would be amazed at what all you can do to an
Escort. They have performance computer chips, headers, oversized
pistons, bigger crankshafts, and all kinds of performance
parts. For the inside, I added a JVC 10 disc CD changer. I
have a lot of plans for it as well, like the drawing below
shows.
I
was dreaming a t a BMW dealer a few years ago, and I told
him how many miles my Escort had. The dealer that day said
he's only heard of maybe 2 Escorts in the world that have
more than 140,000 miles and are still running. However, I
assured him it runs better now than the day I bought it. Below
is a prototype drawing I did of my car using TSW Hockenheim
rims, fender flares, and other goodies.

This was my first
car when I turned 16. It was a 1976 Blazer, and it's fate
was met in DC in a horrendus crash. It was a serious pile,
I always ran out of gas cause the gas gauge didn't work, and
it was really hard to drive. 1985.

My 1976 Oldsmobile
Cutlass. This car was a serious pile as you can see, but I
thought it was really cool when I was a teenager, 1987.
