Madden 2001 Call a Challenge

You may have noticed in Madden 2001 there is a row called CHAL with red bullets next to your list of timeouts. I figured this was a list of how many challenges you could call, but I couldn't figure out how to call them. Sometimes it would have been really nice to be able to call one especially when the computer team catches the ball at the corner of the endzone, and it is called a touchdown. I have noticed that the computer uses their challenges up during a game.

I have searched through the lacking (as usual with video games) manual, and I have searched the Internet for how to call a challenge. I have found nothing but one person saying that it can not be done. NOT TRUE! I finally called one. There isn't an easy way to call a challenge after every play, but it can be done if it is a questionable call. One time, after giving up on ever calling a challenge, I was on defense and the computer made a catch on the sideline for an 8 yard gain. I don't know why, but I wanted to see a replay, so immediately after the player went out of bounds I was pressing the REPLAY button (R1 I think). A POPUP box came up asking me if I wanted to challenge the call!! I almost passed out! I challenge it, and I was shown a super slow-mo replay, and the call was OVERTURNED! Kick ass! That saved me 8 yards. I have not been able to challenge since then, but the next time I see a questionable call, I will be all over my replay button. I hope this helps anyone who has been trying to figure out how to challenge.
