Braad's
NE Visit
Braad
came up to visit Melissa and I over Columbus day weekend,
and we all had a blast! Braad flew into Providence, and
I picked him up. We got lost on the way back because I am
a dumbass and ended up going south on I-95 instead of north;
doh! We finally got back to the house in Dartmouth at like
10:30 and met up with Melissa. I am the world's biggest
procrastinator and excuse maker to get out of going somewhere.
I really wanted to go to the New Wave Café because
it was Hard Rock night, and the three of us had so much
fun at Hooplas in Virginia Beach. So, to keep myself from
making excuses, I called a cab as soon as we got to the
house. This committed us to going to the club. The New Wave
Café isn't in the best part of New Bedford, and Melissa
wasn't that excited about it, or the heavy metal music.
She should be commended for putting up with it all. Thanks
sweetie.
We
went to New Wave Café, and I was expecting a decent
local band doing some rock-like cover songs. What we got
though was a small club with some all original, local, heavy
metal. That fucking ruled!!! I'm sure I had this "I'm
so happy" smile on my face all night as we stood at
the edge of the mosh pit. Poor Melissa. I kept trying to
feed her more alcohol, so she would forget where she was.
We saw Kurse first, which turned out to be my favorite band.
Following them was Stoic and Day 13. Stoic was the most
high energy show, and they even had groupies that knew all
their songs! For me, they were a little to bass oriented.
Day 13 was like a 6 person band, and they were really good
and fan friendly. We drank plenty and had a good time, and
I think Melissa was starting to loosen up a little bit about
the time the fight broke out. DOH!! At the end of the Day
13 set, some crazy bitch that was all pissed off about something
hit someone or something. All these guys chased her out
of the place. This was all right in front of us too, and
Braad ended up with some blood on his arm. Before that though,
that was an impressively friendly mosh pit. These people
would bang into each other and fall over, then help each
other up, shake hands and keep moshing. The moshing part
was hilarious. Talk about a bunch of white people dancing!
Damn! All stiff and shit; they all looked like Beavis. I've
always been sub conscious about dancing, and that didn't
help any. I mean, if that's what I look like, you'll never
see me boogie.
Saturday
we slept in and recovered from Friday then eventually made
it out for a 3pm lunch at Davy's Locker in New Bedford for
some kick ass seafood. On leaving we met some drunk ass
guy that was trying to pick up Melissa and was enthralled
with the old ferris wheel skeleton outside. Saturday night
we stayed home and drank a bunch. We hung out on the back
porch chatting, smoking and drinking. Melissa was hanging
with us all night; she should be commended again! We all
had a blast. Braad and I were telling Melissa about the
Rammstein Live aus Berlin tape especially the part where
the lead singer gets out the big strap on and does his keyboardist
then spews all over the audience. The curiosity was killing
her, so we ended up watching a lot of the Rammstein video,
with Melissa! No way!! She was in shock during the strap
on song; she looked like Braad and I when we first saw it.
It made me wonder "what the hell are they singing about??"
(It's all in German).
One
time, coming in from the back porch from a smoke break,
Melissa started screaming. I looked in the direction her
screaming face was pointing, and I saw Braad's shoes, which
he had just removed. I was like "damn, what's the big
deal with his shoes?" and Braad apparently saw the
same thing I did because he was like "Dang, I'll move
my shoes." Shortly after staring at the shoes with
a puzzled look, I noticed the big ass hairy spider that
Melissa was actually yelling about. It was friggin huge
and walking across the carpet. Melissa back peddled so much
while screaming she almost went over the stairwell railing.
Sunday
we went to the circus with Samantha and Melissa's parents.
It was kind of old hat to me since we had just gone last
year; it was like seeing the same movie a second time. The
funniest part was the tigers. Braad, Melissa, and I were
making up voices for them the whole time. They looked like
big lazy house cats that the ring leader was trying to make
look ferocious. The tigers weren't really cooperating either.
Once, when the tiger master tried to get them all to sit
in an orderly line, one of the tigers rolled over on its
side up against another tiger. Braad goes "I don't
want to be ferocious any more; I think we should make this
into a cuddly show."
We
all had a lot of fun, but our attempts at site seeing were
thwarted by overcast, rainy weather all weekend. Of course,
on Monday the skies cleared, and it was a beautiful day.
On this perfect site seeing day, we pretty much woke up,
got ready and took Braad to the airport.
